Title
What's in it for me? Value of Data Sharing for Manufacturing Companies
Abstract
The manufacturing sector - typically a highly traditional domain - is transitioning toward exploring data as a source for value creation. More recently, organizing individual companies in overarching industrial data ecosystems has opened up new pathways for creating value on shared data. However, the value that manufacturing companies can derive from data sharing remains blurry, as real cases are still emerging, and research is in its infancy. In this paper, we report on our results to explore the value of data sharing for manufacturing companies. For this, we illustrate the value engraved in publicly available reports of manufacturing cases and analyze them using the SMART system and the notion of manufacturing value chains. We identified data-sharing value, particularly in production and logistics. Our work provides insights into the data-sharing value of a critical domain.
