Title

Potential of the system retrofit to increase the level of automation and the use of robots in shipbuilding

Abstract
Sensor-based robot programming significantly increases the potential for higher levels of automation in shipbuilding. In addition to the integration of new robot systems, existing production systems must also be considered. Shipyards often already have mechanized systems whose geometry is well adapted to the potential product range. This article deals with the retrofit of these existing systems. A methodology is shown as to how new sensors and intelligent controls can be integrated into existing systems. To do this, digitalization must be carried out based on a diagnosis of the system. Based on this digitalization, retrofit scenarios are planned and evaluated virtually.
