Title
Load-bearing Resistance of Shear and Interaction Loaded Lockbolt Systems Made from Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel
Abstract
The load-bearing behavior of lockbolt systems for many load cases is comparable to that of bolting assemblies. Therefore, design rules have been adopted and modified where necessary. Due to a lack of experimental data on the load-bearing behavior under combined tension and shear loading, a conservative interaction approach is used for lockbolt systems. To close this knowledge gap, extensive experimental studies were carried out for lockbolt systems made from carbon and stainless steel. Tensile test pieces and bolting assemblies made from carbon steel were also investigated as reference. As a result, a new design approach for the interaction verification of lockbolt systems made from carbon steel and stainless steel was developed and verified by statistical evaluation. In addition, the shear coefficient of lockbolt systems was re-evaluated.
