Micro-Bio-CHP - Development of a Novel Highly Efficient Energy Supply System for Energy Autonomous Multi-family Buildings Based on Biomass Gasification Coupled with an SOFC and a PV System

Abstract
The Horizon Europe project Micro-Bio-CHP aims at the development of an innovative system for heat and electricity supply to achieve an almost energy autonomous multi-family building with regard to heating and electricity consumption as well as electro-mobility. This shall be reached by integrating a biomass CHP plant, a PV system and appropriate heat and electricity storage technologies. The biomass CHP system thereby represents the core component where product gas of an updraft gasifier is utilised (i) in direct combustion for heat generation and (ii) as fuel in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for electricity and heat generation. For the latter a product gas cleaning with thermal and catalytic tar reforming as well as HCl/H2S removal is implemented. During the first phase of this 3.5 years project the single plant components of the biomass CHP system have been developed and a testing plant has been designed and manufactured. Core components such as the biomass gasifier, the product gas combustion system and the product gas cleaning (tar and soot removal) as well as the SOFC stack module have already passed commissioning tests. Presently the testing plant is assembled and comprehensive testing campaigns are planned for the coming months.
