Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning in Mobility and Vehicle Engineering

Abstract
In recent years, the availability of data is growing rapidly and drastically in almost all areas of life. The fields of vehicle engineering, vehicle operation, traffic, and mobility are included here quite naturally. Modern vehicles are recording a huge amount of data, collections of historic measurement campaigns are available as well, and today, there is technology available that helps recording, administrating, processing, and communicating large data sets in a very efficient way. All this opens the door for data-based mathematics and tools from artificial intelligence to efficiently and effectively derive essential information from data and to combine with classic techniques from modeling and simulation. This leads to large potential for applications, especially in the field of vehicle engineering and mobility. This article gives an overview of possible application and throws some spotlights on specifically chosen examples and case studies.
