Title
A Random Early Detection Approach for Capacity Policing in Wireless Backhaul Networks
Abstract
In this paper, we propose a lightweight approach to enforce capacity allocations in Wireless Backhaul Networks (WBNs). It extends the widely-used Random Early Detection (RED) mechanism to include promised capacities. This enables nodes to decide locally how to police the network traffic of flow aggregates. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach in small-scale Ethernet networks to provide a manageable and predictable environment and show that our concept can enforce bandwidth allocations within a small margin of error, adapt to dynamic network utilization, and has only minimal spatial bias. Finally, we are discussing the challenges and necessary considerations when applying our approach to the intended scenario of wireless backhauling.
