Title
Numerical study of explosive blast waves using different hydrocodes
Abstract
The formation and propagation of blast waves and their interaction with objects play an important role in the development of new explosives. For the experimental characterization of blast waves, the explosive chamber of the Fraunhofer ICT is extended with a pressure lance to measure blast pressure over time at a distance of 1 m to the explosive charge. The experimental results are supported by simulations to determine explosive-specific parameters such as the Miller term. Various programs such as LS-DYNA, SPEED and blastFOAM are available at the Fraunhofer ICT for the simulation of a blast wave. The aim of this work is to compare the accuracy and handling of these programs. For this purpose, a simple test case was set up and solved with different solvers. The calculated results are compared in terms of accuracy and performance.
