Title
Development of a comprehensive information and quality monitoring tool for analyzing the operational processes and condition of traffic signal systems using the example of the "Smart Intersection" in Dresden
Abstract
Traditional traffic monitoring systems primarily rely on data from induction loops or cameras, using this information to formulate traffic management strategies. However, with the development of V2X, traffic monitoring is no longer solely the responsibility of traffic infrastructure. According to the concept of CCAM, vehicles should be able to connect and share messages and data with each other and with traffic infrastructure. Through their collaborative efforts, traffic flow can be improved, road congestion reduced, and accidents minimized. To achieve this goal, traffic monitoring systems must collect information from all vehicles and traffic infrastructure, integrate and process it, and provide feedback to road users for better understanding of road conditions.
This thesis presents a novel monitoring approach based on LOS, combined with V2X data, to calculate waiting times and queue length for vehicles at intersections with traffic light systems. One possible application is to transmit these results to vehicles, allowing them to determine whether to proceed through the intersection or take an alternate route based on LOS, resulting in improved transportation efficiency.
