Title
Concept for a Robust and Reliable Manufacturing and Logistics System that Combines Production Planning and Control with Predictive Maintenance
Abstract
Manufacturing industry is undergoing a major change. Industry 4.0 is bringing digitalization, extensive automation and the connectivity of machines and systems with manufacturing. Challenges, such as increasing globalization, customization and product variety, have to be met. Innovative Industry 4.0 approaches are in demand, especially for made-to-order one-off and small-batch production of complex products. Experiences with the most recent crises have underscored the importance of resilience in manufacturing and systems and equipment reliability. The solution lies in closely integrating production planning and control with domains such as and predictive maintenance scheduling. Such integration promises to reduce equipment downtimes and to cut maintenance costs through targeted actions. Past predictive maintenance models have neglected the impacts on productive capacity and the specific requirements of one-off and small batch production. There is a need therefore for a concept that efficiently combines production planning and control with maintenance and facilitates flexible action in this environment.
