Title
Ultra-High-Resolution Marine Seismic Survey for Wind Farm Site Characterization in the German North Sea
Abstract
Ultra-high-resolution marine seismic surveying is a cost-efficient method which allows the generation of optimized subsurface models with adequate vertical resolution and a high spatial coverage of the target area. Such data is essential to integrate spatially sparse geotechnical data with the complex geology encountered in typical shelf environments. A multichannel seismic survey is the basis for any state-of-the-art geological ground model for offshore wind farms. The ultra-high-resolution seismic data acquisition as carried out by Fraunhofer IWES is optimized for the requirements of the offshore wind industry. The ultra-high-resolution seismic survey fills the gap in terms of vertical resolution between high-resolution seismic methods and hydrographic survey system.
