D6.2 Results of provision of ancillary services with DR- and RES-VPPs on regional and interregional level (French proof-of-concept)
Title Supplement
REgions project
Abstract
The provision of ancillary services to the electricity grid by renewable energy plants is becoming more and more crucial, as former ancillary service providers like large conventional power plants are phasing out. As part of the REPower EU Plan and to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the EU commission proposed in 2022 a minimum target of 45% renewable energy in its overall energy mix by 2030 [1].
To achieve this target, the rhythm of deployment of RES must be accelerated and the costs of the transition must be optimized. This is why the REgions project aims to demonstrate both the economic interest and the technical feasibility of the services that these plants could provide to the electricity grid.
In this deliverable, the technical feasibility of two services will be studied: Congestion management and voltage regulation. These services will be demonstrated by pooling the Wind and PV power plants in a centralized Virtual Power Platform (VPP).
