Abstract
How will we live and work in the future? Which traditions will continue to be important to us and which values will be added? And how will the new requirements affect the services, rooms, and products in hotels and other tourist destinations? The »FutureHotel – Cospaces and Communities in a Post Corona Hotel Era« whitepaper presents current societal changes, particularly the forms of cohabitation and their impact on the hotel industry. Due to increasing individualization, living situations are changing, single households are gaining in importance, and on the other hand, the need for communities outside of a core family is growing. Especially in urban areas, measures are needed to counteract loneliness and restlessness. In addition, the younger generations in particular are subject to extreme dynamics: Erasmus semesters, internships abroad or binational relationships, the global generation define a new type of travel generation with completely new demands on hotels and destinations. Instead of classic hotel rooms, in the future there will be a need for coliving areas, diverse room situations for traveling with friends, longer stays and the combination of traveling and working or learning.
This whitepaper describes potentials for shaping the hotel of the future developed on the basis of changes in society as a whole. Among others, the following topics are addressed:
• Community building in an infinite life cycle (urban tribes)
• The rise of new housing forms (e. g. coliving)
• Hotels as public space and neighbourhood meeting points
• Multifunctional spaces in hotels
• Flexible and temporary spaces with pop-up effects
• Community spaces and events for all
The whitepaper »FutureHotel - Cospaces and Communities in a Post Corona Hotel Era« is the third part of a short series on trends in the Post Corona Hotel Era and was published as part of the FutureHotel Innovation Network.
