Title

An Overview of the EDA-Workshop "Radar Signatures & EM Benchmarks"

Abstract
Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) has been an important planning tool for radar systems as well as antenna development and military aircraft design for many decades. A large variety of electromagnetic (EM) modelling tools has been developed and is available as both commercial software suites and highly specialized scientific codes that are able to handle extremely complex tasks of EM simulation. With the growing relevance of automotive radar and 5G systems during the last few years, CEM methods have gained an even higher level of significance. As an example, automotive radars for autonomous driving are sometimes required to be tested over more than one million kilometers, which in many cases is hardly feasible in real experiments. In the context of military aircraft, ships, or other vehicles, the radar cross section (RCS) is a crucial figure, which, during the planning stage, can be obtained only in simulations.
