Virtual and augmented reality for the maritime sector - applications and requirements

The maritime sector with its wide spectrum of ancillary conditions can benefit from advanced computer graphics in many ways. The paper presents several applications from marketing over design to training and maintenance that are based on virtual or augmented reality technology. Some of the technical challenges that arise from the ambitious environment are sketched and an outlook on future research and development is given.
