High capacity public transport - AutoTram

The new public transport vehicle AutoTram is based on aconcept developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems. It combines the advantages of conventional bus and tram technologies into an intermediate public transport vehicle concept. The hybrid driveline configuration of the AutoTram is designed to operate in environmentally sensitive surroundings and provides a high availability and is suitable for daily use. A minimization of its mass and dimensions as well as the reduction of emissions and energy consumption are realised by a compact hybrid system and innovative operational strategies. The AutoTram is developed in the framework of a joint project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research in the framework "Unternehmen Region - Innovative regionale Wachstumskerne".
