Roll-to-roll processing for OLED-based signage and lighting applications

A novel approach has been started to establish a highly efficient small molecule OLED stack deposition on flexible substrates in a roll-to-roll vacuum process. Low cost metal foils as substrates for OLED deposition will allow a major cost reduction, leading to a competitive processing for signage and lighting applications. The talk presents first results on OLED roll-to-roll fabrication and discusses technological challenges as substrate roughness, substrate patterning, small molecule organic layer deposition and encapsulation.
