Title

Thermodynamic analysis of solar thermally driven cold production

Other Title
Thermodynamische Analyse von solarthermisch betriebener Kälteerzeugung
Abstract
A thermodynamic analysis of thermally driven cooling systems shows that it is essential to consider the useful temperature lift of a system in order to provide a fair comparison of COP-values. Analysis of the Carnot Efficiency Factor xi(ind Carnot) allows to identify the global thermodynamic effectiveness of a given system and thus shows the general potential for further improvement. Key elements for further improvement are maximizing internal heat recovery and minimizing temperature losses along heat exchangers by enhancement of heat transfer. However, the given analysis can not help to identify the places of highest irreversibilities. For this purpose a detailed 2nd law analysis e.g. using an exergy approach is required.
