Title
Extrusion of copper based MIM-feedstocks for miniature heat pipes
Other Title
Strangpressen von MIM-Einsatzmaterialien auf Kupferbasis für Miniaturwärmerohre
Abstract
Miniature heat pipes today are increasingly used for cooling purposes of electronic equipment, for terrestrial as well as for space flight applications. Metal Injection Moulding feedstocks (MIM-feedstocks) based on copper powder offer adequate thermal values. Extrusion is one way to achieve linear structures of high complexity at low production costs. At the same time this forming process followed by special sintering regimes allows for the production of porous material with even better evaporation conditions. Here the extrusion process and its constraints are reported. Debinding requirements are discussed. Results of attempts to produce porous materials by modified sintering cycles are shown.
