The description refers to a process for the production of scratch-resistant materials in which a hydrolyzable or condensed composition based on hydrolyzable silicon compounds is applied to a substrate or is subjected to a shaping prpcess and then cured. According to the invention, part of the volatile hydrolysis products are evaporated from the composition before their use, and this surprisingly results in materials with scratch- and abrasion-resistance.
