Handheld device for automated surface inspection of CFRP components
Abstract
Modern composite materials such as carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP) are increasingly being used in various manufacturing sectors. Particularly in the aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering sectors, the lightweight construction potential of this material is stimulating a growing demand. In these industries, complex CFRP components are usually processed in rather small quantities, with the proportion of manual work being comparatively high. However, the use of CFRP in series production requires a significant cost reduction along the entire manufacturing chain in order to secure Germany as a manufacturing location in the long term. Among other things, this also applies to the time-consuming quality control.
