Title

Component-dependent extended reality for assembly assistance for batch size 1

Abstract
Despite the efforts to continue to automate assembly steps, systems are reaching their limits especially in the area of batch size 1. In solving complex problems and with a general ability to adapt to changing conditions, human resources remain in the foreground. Manufacturing customer-specific products, such as the assembly of control panels, represent a particular challenge. The variance of components and changing designs make potential automation or optimization approaches difficult. One focus is on the supply of components and the correct installation of the respective part. This article presents an approach that combines the product-specific provision of materials with a visual assembly assistant. An increase of the process security is forced by a component-specific visualization of process steps. The coupling to higher-level production planning and control systems guarantees a general increase in process transparency and allows the introduction of controlling measures.
