Title

World first for DRM at the olympic games 2008: Digital radio information service journaline® using DRM platform

Abstract
Journaline based Olympic News Service project at Beijing, represented a novel milestone in the exploitation of the emerging Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM). The aim was to use the special opportunity of the Olympic Games to demonstrate to the world the great technological solution available with modern digital radio systems. The DRM has the potential for serving several hundred millions of listeners in China and anywhere in the world with flexibly definable targeted areas. Thomson Service Centre in Beijing provided local service, assisted in integration of the functionalities in-car receiver set and was instrumental in testing the quality of DRM reception. The technique is simple and subsequent their support in almost any modern radio receiver. Several Journaline encoder solutions are also available for various broadcast platforms. Journaline encoder modules are part of several commercially available broadcast server systems. The concept of Journaline is based on provision of pure text information with world-wide applicability.
