This review article deals with selected technologies of today and the future to cope with emergencies and disasters. Topics in detail: aerosol firefighting system, emergency rescue chutes for evacuation of tall buildings and vessels, maritime rescue, personal protective equipment of future firefighters and rescuers, oil spill control by special ships, future command and control equipment for rescuers, search-and-rescue robots and sensors.
