Title
Energy storage systems relevant for the energy economy
Abstract
In general, the storage of electricity or heat serves to disconnect energy availability and demand from their spatial and/or time restrictions. Climate change, shortage of resources and the increasing dependence of industrial nations on oil- and gas-producing countries necessitate measures to use primary energy effectively, combined with harnessing as extensively as possible regenerative energies, which in most cases can only be tapped intermittently. In both areas energy storage systems are indispensable.
