Manufacture of novel composites by spray forming

Silicon carbide, alumina and tungsten carbide powders were added to the metal spray during spray forming of two different steels. For this purpose, a specially designed device was used which allows for the controlled injection of powder particles directly into the atomization zone where they mix with the metal droplets. After deposition, the resulting billets were characterized both by micrography, hardness measurements and wear resistance tests.
