The standardization of Life Cycle Assessment Studies according to ISO DIS 14040 requires a differentiated view on the environmental impacts generated by the use of a specific product. As aggregations into one single indicator are no more acceptable, simple rankings of products are seldom. The necessity of this differentiated approach is demonstrated by using packaging systems for fresh milk and soft drinks as examples.
