The complexity of realtime process control requires computer support for all phases of the system life cycle covering specification, design, implementation, version management, and maintenance. In the same way, project management, quality control, and documentation need increased support. The approach of using existing computer based tools lacks from their incompatibility and incompleteness; covering all those phases means using very different tools with different data bases and user interfaces. Therefore, the integration of tools into toolsets is advisible, requiring standardized interfaces between tools, to a common database system and to a uniform user interface. The paper discusses suited interface concepts and the definition of an object oriented database interface with a predefined set of frequently needed relations between objects. (IITB)
