Title

ALOK - an automated UT-system with microprocessor controlled data aquisition, signal processing and computer aided defect reconstruction - applications in weld inspection

Abstract
Th ALOK-3 system, which was developed in IzfP for automated ultrasonic inspection at welded zones of vessels, pipes and other components, consists of a multiprocessor data recording and signal preprocessing unit, a 32 bit microcomputer with a color graphic subsystem for data presentation, reconstruction of defect characteristics as position, size, orientation and shape, and documentation of the results of the inspection. The data acquisition by ALOK works independent of time gates, that means, each maximum within the RF-signal, satisfying a probe dependend filter function, is recorded. C-scans of these raw data are used to detect welding defects; the defect characteristics result from further signal processing of the same data by a geometric or iterative reconstruction method.
