Title

Effect of inlet and boundary conditions on the numerical modelling of the spray coating process using a pneumatic atomizer

Abstract
This paper describes the numerical modelling of the spray coating process using a pneumatic atomizer with the help of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. The effect of the inlet and boundary conditions, especially for the liquid phase, were investigated. It was found that the complete airflow filed between the nozzle and target could be calculated applying the known air inlet conditions directly at the atomizer. The initial droplet conditions necessary for the simulation of the liquid phase can be taken close to the nozzle. Comparisons between calculated and measured results were made.
