Title
Trends and Resource-Saving Use of Circular Saw Blades in Industrial Wood Processing: A Comparative Market Study
Abstract
As a renewable raw material, wood is becoming an ever more significant factor in the transformation of society towards sustainability and climate neutrality. However, wood is a difficult material to process due to its anisotropic and inhomogeneous properties. The industrial processing of wood as a raw material is carried out using a variety of different tools, whereby circular saw blades, in particular, assume a decisive role. However, the speed of innovation in saw blade technology cannot keep pace with the industry’s demand for greater efficiency and sustainability. The aim of this paper therefore is to analyse the current market for saw blades, determine the key factors influencing the use of these tools and to identify potential areas for improvement. A quantitative approach is used in this paper, collecting data from both users and manufacturers of saw blades. The main objective is to identify the specific needs of these stakeholders and assess market trends in terms of tool performance and innovation. The key findings show that circular saw blades with a diameter of ≥ 500 mm are in high demand due to the need for efficient material cutting. In addition to circular saw blade life, the study shows a growing interest in features such as energy efficiency and advanced tool customisation, including replaceable tooth designs.
