Title
Verarbeitung von LOVA-TLP im Doppelschnecken-Extruder
Other Title
Processing of LOVA propellants using twin-screw extruder technology
Abstract
The processing of CAB-LOVA propellants in the pilot plant at ICT will be described. This plant consists of two modified corotating twin-screw extruders of the types Continua C 37E and ZSK 58E. In a fully automatic, continuous process the raw materials are fed to the extruders free of dust and are then plastified by means of solvents and extruded using dies. The strands obtained are moved away on conveyor belts and cut to propellant grains in a cutting machine. Rheological data were obtained from the online rheometer, which had been adapted to the lab extruder. The process parameters, which had been determined for the CAB-LOVA propellant on the C 37E, were applied to the small scala production extruder ZSK 58E with no sacrifice in product quality. The excellent chemical and physical data of the propellant indicate that a scale-up to a production machine having a screw diameter of approximately 130 mm is given.
