Title

Digital audio compression for professional applications

Abstract
Low bitrate audio coding is a well known technique which will be used in many consumer applications for storage and/or transmission of high quality digital audio. However the known algorithms are only of limited value for studio applications. This is the case because mixing, equalization and tandem coding/decoding might modify the signal to the extent that masked coding artifacts are not longer masked and become audible. This paper describes the results of first investigations into the requirements and possibilities for coding algorithms which can be used in studio applications.
