Title

IMS-Rapid Product Development - A project overview

Abstract
The goal of the project IMS Rapid Product Development is to accelerate product development processes for mechanical parts by providing tools and methods for rapid manufacturing of physical parts. The project will comprise the realisation of a substantially improved process chain starting with physical or digital product models and leading to validated physical parts made of mass production materials in small or medium sized series. This will be realised by developing innovative reverse engineering and rapid tooling technologies. Depending on the target industry a cost and lead time reduction up to 40% is expected. The 3 year project involves 6 industrial partners and 4 research organisations. Close relations with the corresponding inter-regional IMS "Rapid Product Development" project will improve the research work by integrating additional specific skills, results, and experience. Several partners involved in this project participated also in the corresponding IMS Test Case 6: "Rapid Product Development".
