Abstract
The development of advanced materials and processes is enabling powder metallurgy (PM) to win more business in high load applications, particularly in the automotive industry. To succeed in this area, however, part designers need to have a good understanding of fatigue. In the first instalment of a two part review of this subject, Professor C.M. Sonsino from Fraunhofer Institut für Betriebsfestigkeit LBF in Darmstadt, Germany, outlines the latest design procedures.
