Upconversion in a finite, one-dimensional photonic crystal: A simulation-based assessment of the potential for increasing the upconversion efficiency of v-NaYF4:Er3+

Abstract
The potential for increasing the upconversion efficiency of v-NaYF4:Er3+ using 1D photonic crystals is investigated. Within realistic material and fabrication constraints, simulations predict up to 300-fold luminescence enhancement at one sun.
