During the last years the research area of holography has undergone important developments with regard to its theoretical principles and practical applications. Large interest is shown for example in the field of digital holography and its applications. The goal of this paper is to introduce the fundamental concepts of the holography, paying particular attention to the computer generation of holograms. the first chapter deals with the optical holography and the classification of the optical types of holograms, while the second chapter deals meanly with computer generated holograms and presents some coding methods. The last chapter describes the properties of material important for the recording of holograms. (IGD)
