Titel
An autocalibration tool for the photometric and colorimetric consistency of IPTs
Abstract
A new approach for the exact photometric and colorimetric reproduction of virtual environments on IPT screens is presented in this paper. Several independent factors that influence the display quality of IPT devices are addressed here, and a method for the automatic calibration of display devices to ensure photometric and colorimetric consistency is presented. As a result, each pixel of the screen reproduces exactly the desired luminance and color, as specified in the input data. Thus, the reliability of the presented images is extended to brightness, contrast and color perception, which are vital criteria in many application areas for the process of making decisions based on virtual prototypes. The calibration procedure is shown for an example application. Measurements from the IPT screens are compared with the desired values (which may result from measurements in a real environment or may have been simulated using global illumination simulation methods, for example), underlining the correctness of our approach.
