Title

Practical Implementation of Binding Mechanisms in Asset Administration Shell for Real IIoT Platforms

Abstract
The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is increasingly recognized as the key standardization framework for Industry 4.0. However, the shift from conceptual specifications to practical, production-ready implementations exposes significant gaps that continue to hinder its broad industrial adoption. This research addresses the fundamental challenges hindering AAS deployment in real-world Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms through the practical implementation of binding mechanisms for CNC machines and multi-sensor integration. Through systematic analysis of binding mechanism implementations in factory environments, we present a comprehensive methodology for integrating three critical binding mechanisms: data binding for real-time synchronization, protocol binding for multi-vendor interoperability, and semantic binding for cross-domain standardization. The research contributes empirically-validated deployment strategies derived from PlatinA project1 implementation integrating CNC machines with force monitoring and chemical sensors through standardized AAS interfaces. Furthermore, this work introduces container-based deployment frameworks and AAS Data Bridge integration that accelerate AAS creation while ensuring industrial-grade reliability. The findings provide industrial practitioners, system integrators, and technology service providers with proven strategies for overcoming legacy system integration challenges through containerized deployment approaches, establishing AAS binding mechanisms as essential enablers for practical manufacturing digitalization.
