Title
Direct manufacturing of titanium parts with unique properties
Abstract
Laser melting will be presented as a new generative manufacturing process for titanium parts. Laser melting is a layer by layer manufacturing process, which generates 3 dimensional parts out of a powder material achieving a part density of approx. 100%. Amongst other metals, Titanium GdII as well as TiA16V4 powder can be processed. The properties of the titanium parts are comparable to cast samples. Laser melting is a time and material saving process through the direct manufacturing from 3D-CAD data. Furthermore titanium parts with new and unique properties can be realized due to the almost unlimited geometric freedom through the layer by layer manufacturing. Through this laser melting can be qualified as an outstanding manufacturing process for titanium parts. The basic principle of the laser melting process, properties of the parts and fields of application like medical implants (individual implants, mass production of dental parts) and ultra lightweight parts e.g. for aerospace industries will be presented.
