Titel
Time history of radiative heat flux from pool fire
Abstract
Pool fires were investigated at a moderate scale where strong fluctuations of the flame body and radiation were obsd. to obtain quant. data of damages by hazardous fires of flammable materials to make an effective and safe design of buildings and industrial structures. The variation of the flame contours and vols. were measured and the intensity and dependence on the wavelength of the radiation analyzed to obtain flame temp. distributions. The investigations were carried out by robust, non-intrusive and fast scanning measuring techniques like pyrometry, spectroscopy and cinematog. to get a comprehensive image of the heat transfer dependent on time and location. Various methods, exptl. set-ups and characteristic results are described like a fast scanning 2-color-pyrometer to measure simultaneously the heat flux and flame temp. with a time resoln. .ltoreq.10 kHz. Concns. of intermediate flame radicals and combustion products in short time flame structures are sampled (<10 ms) using UV/Vi s- and IR-spectrometers. The distribution of heat radiation was detd. using a simple video system and a thermo-camera equipped with a special data analyzing software. A non-stationary radiation model was derived to est. heat flux on an endangered target.
