Title
The phenomenon of "black magic dust" in housings
Abstract
For several years, black staining that suddenly occurs in living space has been detected. This is usually so extensive and massive that the living quality is considerably diminished. Only in few cases the chemical constituents of the black deposits contained typical combustion products such as PAH and elementary carbon. Microscopic analysis and chemical analytics using GC/MS proved that the black deposits concerned were usually dust fibers in connection with SVOC. The reasons for the occurrence of the "black magic dust" have now been delimited but have not been cleared up entirely. Particularly building products used during renovation or completion have to be considered as primary sources of SVOC and fibers. As, however, the phenomenon appears nearly exclusively with the beginning of the heating period, constructional conditions and living behavior must also be of importance.
