Title

Architectures for multimodal interactive assistant systems

Abstract
The focus projects Arvika, Embassi, Invite, Map, Morpha, and Smartkom, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, investigate technologies for creating systems that assist the user in interacting with his personal environment. In this paper, we outline the common basic architectural building blocks for such situation-aware multimodal interactive assistance systems and propose a common conceptual architecture. Furthermore, we outline some of the major challenges that arise when building multimodal assistants based on the heterogeneous infrastructures considered in the individual focus projects.
