A study of the impact of consistency on user experience

The purpose of this thesis is to study the effect of consistency on user experience. In the past it has been theorized that interface consistency has positive effects on performance and user satisfaction in webpages, but there is no research on the effect of user experience. This study shows how a consistency inspection is applied on an existing inconsistent application to identify inconsistencies, how these are turned into consistencies and prototypes created. User evaluations are then conducted using both the inconsistent application and the consistent prototype. Task completion times and user preference will be recorded. Results showed that users preferred the consistent prototype to the inconsistent application. The results for the completion times were mixed.
