Abstract
Welding process with several high energy beams, esp. laser beams comprises welding the opposite sides (12,13) of a workpiece simultaneously by plasma inducing beams and modulating the welding beam power of both welding beams (10, 11) forming vapour capillary (14) with time, the transmittivity of the vapour capillary (14) is monitored by measuring the plasma fluctuation. The process is novel in that the high energy beam of at least one welding beam is modulated to an indication frequency lying above the fluctuation frequency of the welding plasma. USE - For high energy beam, esp. laser beam welding simultaneously on opposite sides of a workpiece. ADVANTAGE - Provides an improved method of measurement and weld quality control.
