The invention relates to a process for writing and reading out information by means of an electrical field in an information storage layer which contains a polarizable polymer film (active layer), whereby the following steps are performed: a) unipolar orientation of the dipoles of the active layer, b) writing the information by applying an electrical counterfield, c) reading out the information by means of a non-linear optical process.
