Title
Verfahren zur Oxidation von Kohlenwasserstoffen unter Verwendung von Mikroorganismen
Other Title
Highly selective oxidation of hydrocarbons to alcohols (and for use in water- and soil-purification) uses microorganisms providing alkanehydroxylase enzyme systems, optionally with newly isolated recombinant strains.
Abstract

EP 1149918 A UPAB: 20020128 NOVELTY - Oxidation of 2-20C hydrocarbons or of aliphatic substituents on aromatics is carried out using Rhodococcus ruber (KB1; DSM 13405), Rhodococcus ruber (DSM 7511), Rhodococcus ruber (SW3; DSM 13406) or Arthobacter sp (11075) or their natural or genetically-engineered mutants. USE - Claimed uses are in purification of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil or water and also in production of alcohols predominantly by terminal oxidation. ADVANTAGE - The hydrocarbons are converted to alcohols on an industrial scale with high selectivity, the selectivity for terminal oxidation (e.g. for 1-BuOH) being above 80% (claimed). Tests with the above species with n-butane gas showed activities in the 31.4-49.0 nmol/min/mg (protein) range as opposed to a value of only 13.2 nmol/min/mg (protein) for Myobacterium sp (11435).
