Title

Bilddarstellungsverfahren und Vorrichtung zur Durchfuehrung des Verfahrens

Other Title
Image representation method for depicting computer modelled objects - involves calculating image impression of each raster element from stored memory matrix to enable natural effect taking into account surrounding reflections.
Abstract

EP 862141 A UPAB: 19981001 The method is used to portray computer modelled objects provided in the form of a grating model and defined by several bounding polygonal surfaces. Several first coordinate sets are calculated from a predetermined first parameter set representing the spatial position of respective polygon surfaces. The coordinate sets represent the spatial position of a respective raster element of the respective polygonal surfaces. Second coordinate sets are calculated from the first parameter set representing the spatial position of respective polygon surfaces for each raster element. The second coordinate set represents the spatial position of the local surface normals (N). A second parameter set representing the spatial position and the optical properties of a first light source, as well as the first and second coordinate sets and a third parameter set reproducing the position of a virtual viewer are used to calculate a first image information value representing a local light model. The derived value reproduces an image impression of the respective raster element from the perspective of the viewer. A two dimensional image coordinate set is calculated from the first coordinate set for representation on a screen. A first address value is then calculated. This is used to address a memory location of a first memory matrix. A second information value reproducing the image impression of the surroundings from a given perspective is read out from the addresses memory location. A third image value is calculated from the first and second values to take into account both the local light model and also the reflections of the surroundings and to control the screen (13). ADVANTAGE - Allows modulation of reflections of surroundings for accurate imaging.
