Title
Other Title
Process to modify adsorption properties fine-pored molecular sieve by contact with dissolved agent under super-critical conditions.
Abstract

DE 10024312 A UPAB: 20010829 NOVELTY - A process modifies the adsorption properties of the inner surface of a substance with macro and/or meso and/or micro and/or sub-micro-pores (MMMS-porous). The adsorbent surfaces are brought into contact with a fluid which is under super-critical conditions and contains one or more dissolved or dispersed modification agents. The modification agent is dissolved or dispersed in the fluid prior to or during contact with the fluid. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Examples are the use of zirconium(IV) oxide, palmitic acid, or oleic acid to modify active carbon or coke in a process to manufacture a molecular sieve and in which the fine-pored adsorbent is activated following heat treatment. In a process to modify active carbon with oleic acid, 0.5 g of grains of non-dried and untreated gas filter form-active carbon are weighed and introduced into a solution of 0.25 g oleic acid in 4.5 ml super-critical carbon dioxide at a temperature of 50C and pressure of 200 bar for 30 min. The pressure is then relaxed at the rate of 2 bar/min, desorbing carbon dioxide from the carbon, leaving the oleic acid in the active carbon. USE - The process is used to manufacture a fine-pored molecular sieve e.g. for special adsorption and chromatography applications. ADVANTAGE - The process facilitates the creation of high-grade selective catalytic adsorbents.
