Title
Other Title
Polyphonic melody extraction device for mobile telephone, has melody extraction unit to extract melody based on audio signal`s melody line, which is determined by assigning spectral component, having maximum intensity, to time slot.
Abstract

DE1004049517 A UPAB: 20060714 NOVELTY - The device has an input unit (302) to provide a time-spectral representation of an audio signal e.g. song, in which each spectral component of the representation has a spectral band. Melody line determination units determine a melody line of the signal by assigning a spectral component, having maximum intensity, to a time slot. A melody extraction unit (304) extracts a polyphonic melody from the signal based on the melody line. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: (A) a method for extracting a melody from an audio signal (B) a computer program including a program code for execution of a method for extracting the melody. USE - Used for extraction of a melody for generation of ring tones for a mobile telephone. Can also be utilized for assisting a musician. ADVANTAGE - The melody line determination units determine the melody line of the audio signal by assigning the spectral component of the time-spectral representation, having the maximum intensity, to the time slot, thus ensuring the extraction of the polyphonic melody, which is perceived by humans as the loudest and prominent piece of music, in a stable and less expensive manner.
