The device has a support (2) having several degrees of freedom for movement. The support has six struts (1) attached to it which are adjustable in length, whereby the struts (1) can be coupled to a base (3) in pairs at points close together. Four of these points can be on a single straight line, while the other two are on a second line parallel to the first. In the rest position, the distance between the attachment points of all the struts to the base and support can be the same. In this position, two strut-attachment points to the support can be on each of three parallel lengthwise lines, these being situated between the parallel lines on the base.
